Hike The Dragon's Back - Hong Kong

The Dragon's Back (Traditional Chinese: 龍脊) is a ridge in southeastern Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong, between Wan Cham Shan and Shek O Peak. It lies within the Shek O Country Park. In 2004 the Dragon's Back Trail was selected by TIME Asia as the best urban hiking trail.

There’s a beautifully rural world within a hiking boot’s throw of Hong Kong’s downtown. A dragon’s back, deserted beaches, volcanic landscapes, feng shui woods and remote temples await your discovery. Take a diversion from those urban excursions and hike Asia’s world city!

The first section consists of stairs through Cape Collinson Cemetery, and once you finish those, it’s a 1 or 2h hike along the ridge overlooking southern Hong Kong Island – a total breeze! Certain parts are wooded and boast beautiful plant life, whilst the rest is on a ridge overlooking the sea. The highest point on the trail is only 284 metres, but the views are worthy of a much more difficult hike. If it’s a cloudy day you can still enjoy the slopes, but you may not see as far into the distance.
